I have worked in retail my whole career. My entire adult life, actually. And while I like it, I’ve discovered that I may enjoy teaching more. I have to be honest, it has been difficult making the transition. I never did a residency out of pharmacy school and I wasn’t really motivated at the time to do one. When I first looked into academia, I was shocked at the requirements and preferred qualifications. I had never been published. How does that even work? Why does that even matter? Nonetheless, I sought out advice on how to meet this condition. I talked to people…I talked to a lot of people. A friend I had in med school recommended I get involved in clinical research. So I met with the director at the university. He informed me that it isn’t customary that the pharmacist involved in the clinical research gets named in the publication. Awesome. So then I tried talking to other people. At one point, I think I even sent out a mass email to all the professors of the nearby university asking for tips. Desperate? Maybe. At least I got responses. I was notified of a cohort Teaching Certificate Program that was about eight months long and ends with a volunteer faculty position. Now we were getting somewhere! So now I am currently in this program and learning how to write research protocols and we may even dabble into grant writing. This is where my journey begins (corny, I know) and what I plan to write about on this site. Thank you for reading my post!
